Single Motherhood

I am reading an op-ed by Ann Coulter and she makes a very interesting case against the government and the established media. Here are a few excerpts from her new book Guilty. And I quote..."Government policies are designed to support single mothers, rather than stop them. Churches, corporations, and nonprofit organizations are required to chip in to make up for single mothers' lack of husbands."..."It never occurs to anyone to simply return to the original rule: Unless a man is married to a woman when she gives birth to his child, he has no rights to that child, and unless a woman is married to a man when she gives birth to his child, she has no right to his paycheck or his time."

She makes a very compelling case for how to deal with the growing trend of single mothers in America. She also gives several examples of studies that have been conducted about the social remifications fo single mothers on an economic stand point.

A link to a cliff notes version of her book click here.

  1. In todays society a man gets screwed over more so than the woman in single parent situations. However, I believe Coulter goes a little to far with her saying the man should have no right to a child if man and woman are not married at time of birth. And child support should always be an option if there is a dead beat dad who does not want to pay for anything for the child. Even if the parents are not married, both parents still have rights and responsibilities to that child.

  2. It is obvious you did not completely understand what she was trying to convey. The statement you took was in reference to the government's role in people lives when a child is born. Again read the cliff notes version and see if you get a better grip on what she is actually trying to convey. It has nothing to do with the individual.
